Ingredients
Method
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cook the pasta in salted water until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon.
- Add the diced onion and cook for 3 to 4 minutes until softened. Stir in the garlic and cook for another 30 seconds.
- Season with oregano, basil, red pepper flakes if using, salt, and pepper. Stir well.
- Add crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, and water or broth. Stir to combine and simmer for 10 to 15 minutes to let the flavors develop.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked pasta, meat sauce, and ricotta cheese. Mix until evenly coated.
- Transfer half of the pasta mixture to a greased 9x13-inch baking dish. Sprinkle half the mozzarella and Parmesan over it.
- Add the remaining pasta, then top with the rest of the mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
- Cover with foil and bake for 20 minutes. Remove foil and bake for another 10 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Let sit for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired.
- Let me know if you’d like a version with turkey or chicken, or a dairy-free option.
